Longmeadow Solar Project

Project Information

Galehead Resource Development, LLC (Galehead) is proposing to develop the Longmeadow Solar Project (the Project) in Morgan County. The Project is a proposed up to 500-megawatt (MW) alternating current utility-scale solar energy facility and up to 500-MW battery energy storage system (BESS) in rural Morgan County. The Project would encompass approximately 5,500 acres of privately owned land in Morgan County. The Project would connect in the future to the proposed Canal Crossing Switching Station to be owned and operated by the Public Service Company of Colorado (also known as Xcel Energy). Surface-disturbing activities would be required for Project construction. During construction, the site may include a temporary construction laydown yard, staging area for panels and other equipment, private gravel access roads, and a temporary construction management building. Future operational activities would include mowing of vegetation and other ongoing facility maintenance activities. If approved, the anticipated Project construction start would be early 2025 with commercial operation in late 2026. The up to 500 MWs of sustainable energy to be produced by the Project is enough to power approximately 80,000 average American homes. (1)

In order to comply with Morgan County zoning regulations, Galehead will prepare two Morgan County Special Use Permits – one for the utility-scale solar energy facility and one for the BESS. In support of these permits, and to comply with federal and state regulations, Galehead has conducted a variety of on-site environmental surveys.
